Post Op Instructions for Porcelain Laminates

Your laminates are attached to your teeth by a chemical and micro-mechanical technique. The material used to attach them to your teeth is a plastic and it will continue to harden over the next 24 hours. Therefore be careful and gentle with them during this period It is amazingly strong but so is your bite.

The dentist makes sure that you are not constantly hitting or traumatizing your laminates with your opposing teeth. If for any reason you feel your bite is not correct and the laminates are getting in the way call for an adjustment immediately. If you were given a night guard to protect the laminates while you are sleeping, do not forget to wear it. Just like an orthopedic surgeon would tell a patient with a hip replacement not to jog you should be aware of the hardness of the foods that you bite on with your laminates.

Torqueing or twisting of foods (such as an apple) against the laminates can cause them to debond. If a laminate comes off call the office as soon as possible to have it re-inserted. Your laminates are a beautiful esthetic restoration and with care they will last many years.
