Implants
Dentistry has had the ability to treat patients with implants since the mid 80's.The evolution in product and treatment is remarkable.
Today implants are a proven modality that must be made part of every treatment plan decision. They avoid bridges and removable partial dentures. They enable tooth replacement without cutting down your natural teeth. They can replace complete dentures or enable them to fit so comfortable you can eat corn on the cob or Turkish taffy.
Dental implants are placed to replace teeth that are extracted due to disease whether it be tooth or gum/bone related. They will work where natural teeth have failed .We have treated patients as young as 15 and as old as 83.
The implant or titanium fixture as we call it is placed in the bone below the gum at the time of tooth extraction or at a later date. The areas of bone where the fixture will be placed can be strengthened with a bone graft if necessary. The implant itself needs to join (integrate) to the bone and this usually takes 3 months. After that time the implant can be restored by the dentist to proper form and function with a crown, bridge or overdenture.
Implants are a remarkable addition to the choices patients have in determining their treatment with the dentist. It is a procedure that is over 94% successful and the procedure, since it is planned and controlled, is less painful and has easier healing then an extraction.
