Cosmetic Dentistry
Cosmetic Dentistry is a great deal more than just getting whiter-brighter teeth. We can replace teeth that are missing to enhance the smile as well as reshape the teeth as a group or individually. We can lengthen teeth, make them look wider or narrower, rotate or tip them for better alignment, and even add gum to shorten long teeth. These are some of the treatments that can be completed with new materials that look like real teeth, even up close.
There are many parameters that the cosmetic dentist will evaluate in determining the best treatment plan to meet your and the dentists objectives.
Some of these parameters are:
- Listing your concerns
- Taking impressions for study casts so your teeth can be studied from every angle while looking at your x-rays at the doctors' desk.
- The position of your lips when relaxed
- The position of your lips when smiling
- Does your upper gum show when smiling?
- The relationship of your top and bottom teeth when closed
- Do you grind or clench your teeth?
- Is there crowding? Did you have braces?
- Missing teeth
- The health of the gum ,the type ( thick or thin) ,and the amount of bone
These are just a few of the questions the dentist looks to answer before any treatment plan is completed. The most important is probably #1. Good questioning and communication with ample time spent together so that the doctor knows what your expectations are, are they realistic and can they be met?
